Hot Runner Optimization: Reduce Sprue & Boost Material Yield
In conventional cold runner molding of thermostat brackets, sprue can represent nearly 50% of the total shot weight, leading to high waste and added energy consumption. Our technical solution retrofits existing mold bases with a hot runner system, eliminating the cold sprue by keeping material molten throughout the injection cycle.
As a result, sprue weight per shot is reduced by over 70%, bringing the sprue ratio down from approximately 50% to roughly 10%, while overall material utilization exceeds 90%. This approach eliminates secondary regrinding operations, reducing equipment and energy requirements while maintaining cycle time and part quality. Material cost per part is reduced by approximately 50%, with annual savings per mold reaching up to one million RMB depending on production volume. This solution represents a technical shift from waste recycling to waste prevention, delivering both environmental and economic benefits for precision molding applications.
